Molten Encaustic colors and brushes on the stainless steel hot palette

What is encaustic?

WHAT IS ENCAUSTIC? Melted wax applied atop an oil painting or collage on a wood panel. Invented by the Ancient Greeks, called, "Enkaustikos". The Greeks would paint the wooden bows of their ships in pigment then coat with molten wax/encaustic to protect the pigments from the Sun and the Sea.
